Today’s Guest is Trap Recording Artist Ponzo Houdini
Raised in the Jefferson Projects in Buffalo, New York Trap recording artist Ponzo Houdini Launched his career in 2007. “My first song entitled,”You A Lame.”At the time Myspace was our main source of social media. My song was generating many plays
A&R from Slip N Slide records ‘King V’ reached out to me. He reached out to me saying he respected my music and for me to send him some tracks so that he could pursue a recording deal for me. I sent him a few songs, and ‘You A Lame’ was included. I never heard from him again, but in 2008 Trina a Slip N Slide recording artist released a song called ‘Lame’ and it’s the same song, but with a few words placed differently.”
His official single released in 2015 entitled ‘Daddy Wit Da Caddy’ which released on WorldStar.com and more. He’s toured and worked with artists like Future, OJ Da
Juiceman, Skippa Da Flippa, 2 Milly and Rich The Kid as well as Zaytoven and O’Mega Red.
Music wasn’t persistently a direct path for Ponzo, in fact, life started off very troubling. “My parents separated when I was younger due to my mothers struggle with drug addiction. My father, grandmother, and aunt primarily raised my brother and me.”
In school, I was on the honor roll until high school. At 14 I started hanging out in the streets, selling weed. From there I started selling crack cocaine – the same substance that changed my mother’s life in a negative way.”
In 2008 he served one year in the county jail which was unfortunatley followed by an- other charge in 2011. He served 2 years in the state prison system followed by 2 years on parole. “I came home focused on changing my life around, but parole was making it complicated to do so. I started my entertainment label ‘Cake Boss Life Entertainment.’”
He went on the run in 2014 where he put out his first Mixtape ‘Wanted’ which released on datpiff.com. He followed that with his album ‘Controlled Substance’ which released on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and Tidal. Later that same year after saving enough money he returned to New York and surrendered himself for the parole violation.
He served his remaining time and set out to continue to pursue his goals.
He was gifted enough to secure a deal with Tunde Balogun with Atlantic Records. Balogun said, “Although his music was good enough he didn’t have the fanbase for the type of deal he was pursuing.” Since Then the Independent artist has worked tirelessly to gain a positive, conscious fan base.
